These terms govern your use of Redpen. By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not, do not use the service.
Redpen is operated by Waleed Aamer, a sole trader based in Lahore, Pakistan.
You photograph exam scripts. Redpen reads them, marks them against the mark scheme, and returns an annotated script and, depending on your plan, written reports.
The marking is produced by a machine and you are the examiner. Redpen is a tool that marks quickly so that you can check rather than start from nothing. It will sometimes misread handwriting, misjudge a borderline answer, or miss something a person would catch.
Every mark must be reviewed by you before it reaches a student. Do not issue a Redpen result as a final grade without reading it. We provide correction tools for exactly this reason.
Redpen is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by or connected to Cambridge University Press & Assessment, Cambridge International Examinations, or any examination board.
Marks produced by Redpen have no official standing. They are not a prediction of, a substitute for, or an appeal against an official result. "Cambridge", "CAIE", "CIE" and related names are used only to describe which syllabus a paper belongs to, and belong to their respective owners.
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your material, process it, and return the result to you.
By uploading a script you confirm that you are entitled to — as the teacher of that student, under your school's policy, and under the law where you are. We cannot verify that and do not try to; it rests with you.
You must not upload material you have no right to share, including copyright material belonging to an examination board where you are not licensed to use it.
Redpen charges by what a script actually costs to mark, plus a margin, taken from a credit balance. Scripts differ: a long paper costs more than a short one, and scripts sent together cost less per script than the same ones sent separately.
Because of this, we do not quote a fixed price per script. The app shows an estimate before a sitting and the exact amount after. Every charge appears in your credit history with what it was for.
If Redpen fails to mark a script you were charged for, tell us and we will refund that charge. We do not refund credit because you disagreed with a mark — that is what the correction tools are for. Unused credit is not refundable for cash.
Payments are handled by Polar as merchant of record. Their terms apply to the transaction itself.
We may suspend an account that does any of these.
Redpen is a small, young service. It will sometimes be slow, and it will sometimes be down. We do not promise uptime, and we do not promise that any particular sitting will finish in a particular time.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Redpen is not a filing system for student records.
Redpen is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for marks that turn out to be wrong, or for any decision made on the strength of Redpen's output — which is why these terms ask you to check every mark.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid us in the three months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.
You can stop at any time: cancel your plan and close your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and will say why.
On closure, your material is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy. Download anything you want to keep first.
We may change these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app and the date at the top will change. Continuing to use Redpen after that means accepting them.
These terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, and the courts of Lahore have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove rights your local law gives you.
